2012 JACKRABBIT MOUNTAIN ADVENTURE RACE
RULES
Introduction
These rules are written to ensure the safety and integrity of the Jackrabbit Mountain Adventure Race. The rules are enforced by Traiblazers Adventure Racing Club (TBARC) and by the race staff and volunteers.
Protests
A member of the race team can make any protests after completion of the race to the race director within one hour of race finish. If a formal protest is made, the RD will consult with the race advisory committee. The race advisory committee is made up of members of the TBARC Support Crew. All decisions by the race advisory committee are final.
Team Member Withdrawal
Upon race director approval, teams may continue on the race course as an unranked one or two-person team if it becomes necessary for team members to withdraw. The remaining competitors must carry full team mandatory gear. Voluntary withdrawals must occur at transition areas.
Helping Others
Teams are permitted and encouraged to help each other during the race. You must render aid to any racer in need of medical attention. Time credits will be awarded to compensate for time lost while assisting.

Ultimate Goal
The ultimate goal is to collect all CP’s, in the stated order, and cross the finish line within the allotted time. A high standard of racing may produce these results. It is to the teams’ advantage to have great time management. It is better to skip a CP or 2 and finish before race cut-off than to get all and finish after race cut-off. Finishing places are awarded by total CPs collected then by time. You are responsible as a team for understanding finishing rules and for managing the course and your team accordingly. Teams finishing after the cut-off will be considered official race finishers and will be ranked according to finishing time only, regardless of checkpoints acquired.
Finishing after allotted time
Don’t fret, if you finish after cut-off, you will still be considered an official race finisher. However, you will be ranked solely on finishing time, regardless of CP's acquired, and behind all teams who finished within the allotted time. This re-emphasizes the point that it is best to miss a checkpoint or two and finish before the race cut-off. By doing so, it is entirely possible to rank higher than a team who acquired more checkpoints than you, but finished even one second after the cut-off. We score this way to encourage teams to finish in the allowed time, and make our jobs easier in ensuring that all teams are accounted for and off the race course in a timely manner, while still allowing all teams to be official finishers.
Rankings
Rankings are in place to help paint a clear picture of the teams and how they raced.
- Teams finishing before the race cut-off will be ranked in order of the following criteria: CP’s collected, then finishing time (less all penalties).
- Teams finishing after the race cut-off will be ranked according to finishing times only, regardless of checkpoints collected, and will be ranked behind all teams finishing before the cut-off.
Checkpoints
The control points in a race are what actually make the racecourse. If these points are missing, stolen, or misplaced, the entire course and the participants can be thrown off. We strive to have every control point correctly placed and to keep people from interfering with them. However, adventure racing is not an exact science and from time to time a control point may come up missing. If you encounter such an instance, please use the following guidelines to assess the situation and act accordingly. Each checkpoint will have a standard orienteering hanging bag with a surveyors tape within 10ft that has a code. In the event a Checkpoint is missing you can locate the back-up control and copy down the code, located on the yellow surveyors tape, for documentation.
